Ben is a game designer working out of a box room in South London. He's participating in Kongregate's experimental games incubator - Launchpad X - with his latest project: Petri Dish. His first industry job was as a games writer for a casual RPG called Here Be Monsters, and has since developed games independently for mobile and web.
Ben grew up in Milton Keynes so turned to video games for cultural enlightenment. That didn't go so well but did lead him to study games design in London. He's also gone to see shows at the theatre and everything. His first games were mods of Warcraft III and his first release was Tip of the Tongue for Kongregate, reworked from an earlier Ludum Dare entry that won 2nd Place for Innovation. In 2014 he caught up with his fellow university alumni for a beer in Copenhagen, and ended up winning the award for Best Board Game at the Nordic Game Jam.First Job
After working two simultaneous internships at either end of London, Ben impressed the team at Gamesys enough to be hired full time as a writer/designer on their first social game, Here Be Monsters. He worked there for three years, developing stories and quest content for their non-violent fantasy rendition of the age of exploration.First Indie Game
After saving up all he could, Ben took the dive head-first into independent development. This involved, figuratively, going back to school and re-learning how to code, use Unity, and to make Adobe Illustrator do something useful (still working on that one). He also returned, literally, to University - as a part-time games lecturer at UEL. During this time he was fortunate enough to be accepted onto the BAFTA Crew Games programme and was a juror for BAFTA's Young Game Designer Competition. His first commercial indie game - Hexderity - a fast-paced trial of memory and reflexes, is available for iOS, Android and via itch.io for Windows, Mac and Linux.
